Position: Groundworker
Location: Leiston, Suffolk
Hours: 10 hours minimum paid
Duration: Long Term
Pay Rate: £21 per hour plus £100 travel plus £50.65 lodge (dependent on candidates’ location)

Foundation Personnel are looking for Groundworkers for the construction of Haul Roads for a long term project in Leiston, Suffolk.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. A Groundworker for Haul Road Construction is responsible for preparing, constructing, and maintaining temporary or permanent roads used by heavy machinery and transport vehicles on construction and mining sites. Their key responsibilities include:
1. Site Preparation & Clearing

  • Clearing vegetation, debris, and obstacles from the designated haul road area.
  • Marking out and levelling the road alignment according to plans and specifications.
  • Ensuring the ground is stable and free from hazards before construction begins.

2. Excavation & Earthworks

  • Digging and grading the ground to form the road base.
  • Compacting the soil to create a stable foundation using rollers, compactors, and tampers.
  • Managing cut-and-fill operations to balance earthmoving needs.

3. Installing Drainage Systems

  • Digging trenches and laying pipes or culverts to prevent water accumulation.
  • Installing roadside ditches, soakaways, or geotextile membranes to control erosion.
  • Ensuring proper drainage to maintain road integrity in all weather conditions.

4. Road Surface Construction

  • Laying and spreading materials such as crushed stone, gravel, or aggregate.
  • Compacting road layers using rollers to ensure durability and stability.
  • Applying binding agents or stabilizers if required for increased load-bearing capacity.

5. Kerbing & Edge Protection

  • Installing edge protection such as barriers, berms, or marker posts.
  • Placing kerbs or concrete blocks where necessary to prevent road damage.
  • Ensuring proper road width and safe transitions to existing roads or access points.

6. Maintenance & Repairs

  • Regularly inspecting the haul road for wear, erosion, or potholes.
  • Regrading and repairing surfaces affected by heavy vehicle movement.
  • Managing dust control measures, such as spraying water or applying dust suppressants.

7. Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Following site safety regulations and traffic management plans.
  • Ensuring haul roads meet load-bearing and gradient requirements for heavy machinery.
  • Coordinating with machine operators, engineers, and site supervisors to ensure safe operations.

Qualifications and Experience: CSCS, Experience in the Groundworks and the construction of Haul Roads
