Job description
We are looking for an experienced Barge Master to join our team delivering large-scale marine civils and infrastructure projects across the UK. This is a site-based role with nationwide travel, offering the opportunity to work on some of the country’s most exciting marine construction projects.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of barges, supporting piling, lifting, and other marine construction activities. You’ll be leading from the front, ensuring safety standards are met, and coordinating closely with supervisors, crews, and project managers.
Responsibilities

Operate and manage barge movements, positioning, and mooring.

Oversee safe lifting and marine operations in line with project requirements.

Ensure compliance with marine safety regulations and company procedures.

Carry out daily equipment and certification checks.

Lead safety briefings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.

Liaise with marine supervisors, site teams, and port authorities.
Requirements

Previous experience as a Barge Master in marine civil engineering or offshore construction.

Valid marine qualifications (STCW or equivalent).

Strong knowledge of marine operations and safety procedures.

Good leadership and communication skills.

Flexibility to work nationwide with regular travel.

(Desirable) CPCS Lift Supervisor, SSSTS/SMSTS, or Gold/Black CSCS.
